The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 4:15 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Gerstein, Harb, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., MacDonald, Maltais, Massicotte, Moore, Raine, Ringuette, Smith (Saurel), Stewart Olsen and Tkachuk (12).
In attendance: John Bulmer and Adriane Yong, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
The clerk informed the committee of a vacancy in the chair and presided over the election of the chair.
The Honourable Senator Tkachuk moved:
That the Honourable Senator Gerstein do take the chair of this committee.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The Honourable Senator Gerstein took the chair.
The chair moved that at all meetings of the committee only the presiding officer shall be seated at the head of the table accompanied by the clerk of the committee and analysts from the Library of Parliament.
After debate, the question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, the committee continued its review of the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (S.C. 2000, c. 17), pursuant to section 72 of the said Act. (For the complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 9.)

Maria Romeo, Director, Emerging Border Programs Division, Border Programs Directorate, Programs Branch.
Canadian Security Intelligence Service:
Allison Merrick, Director General, DDEX (Discovery and Data Exploitation).
The chair made an opening statement.
Mr. MacDonald made a statement and, together with Mr. Legeurrier, Superintendent Adam, Ms. Romeo, and Ms. Merrick, answered questions.
At 6 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
